Search Multiple Databases at Once PowerSearch gives you all the tools you need to search across multiple Gale collections of periodical and reference content, while efficiently managing your results. With the cross-search feature of PowerSearch, you can search one, several, or even all available databases simultaneously. Not sure what you'll find in a particular database? PowerSearch makes it easy for you to select the databases most appropriate to include in your cross-search by providing an alphabetical listing of databases along with product descriptions. You may even decide to leave PowerSearch and continue your research directly in a single Gale database. View Search Results Graphically as a Map of Content Categories In partnership with Groxis, Inc., Gale offers One Search, which combines the trusted Gale content and easy-to-use search interface of PowerSearch with the deep-searching and results visualization capabilities of the GrokkerTM enterprise search management system. One Search cross-searches the PowerSearch databases that you have selected, along with other information sources you can select, and presents your results in a visual map. The map view displays your results as spheres and circles representing categories and allows you to "zoom" into a category to find highly granular content. Selecting the title of an individual document displays the document contents in its native application in a new browser window. Choose from Many Search Options You have many search options in PowerSearch to find the information you seek, whether you wish to enter one or two keywords, search using pre-defined subject terms, or construct complex search queries using Boolean logic, to name a few choices.
In addition you can search for dictionary definitions of words or terms using the Dictionary link from the toolbar. If enabled by your library, you may also be able to limit your search to target specific results. Make the Most of Your Search Results When it comes to organizing your search results whether you've searched a single database or many, PowerSearch displays your results as items grouped by tabs, similar to file folders. Each tab corresponds to a type of source material, such as articles from Magazines or essays from premier Gale reference Books collections. Just click a different tab to see more results. The results items tell you at a glance if you'll be linking to a full-text article (with or without images) or to a citation or abstract, and if alternate forms of the article are available (such as PDF). You can rearrange (sort) and/or limit results items in a way more convenient for you. When you find a results item that interests you, click on its hyperlinked title to display the complete document. No doubt you'll find many documents that meet your research needs. PowerSearch provides these easy-to-use ways to help you make the most of the information you find:
Your research needs may lead you to seek out alternate formats of the documents you find. Or you may wish to search for other, related resources. Once again, PowerSearch provides the assistance you need. With PowerSearch you can link to:
Move Around Easily with Standardized Navigation Features From beginning your search, to viewing results, to selecting documents, PowerSearch makes navigation easy with a standard banner that appears at the top of most pages. In the upper right-hand corner you may see a link to your library's home page (if enabled by your library). Below that on the title bar you'll find general session links, such as setting preferences or logging out. Next is a one-stop toolbar featuring links to help you manage your search results with tools such as Bookmark and Marked Items. You'll also find handy links such as Previous Searches, Dictionary, and Title List. Below the toolbar you'll find the search path bar, where you can access any available search page to begin a new search. And lastly, you'll always know where you are in the product with the "breadcrumb trail", which shows the path your search has taken and lets you easily return to any previous step. |
